Patios

Patios

A patio is the floor of a garden, and it is laid to be walked on for a lifetime. We build ours by hand, in natural and dressed stone, cut and set to suit the house and the ground it sits on — not the page of a catalogue.

What's involved

Every patio begins on site, with a look at the levels, the drainage and the way the light falls. We prepare a proper sub-base, lay to falls so water runs where it should, and finish the edges — a curved wall, a run of steps, a border of setts — so the whole thing reads as one piece. Once it's down, a patio of this kind asks very little of you: an occasional sweep and wash keeps it right for years.

What we work in

  • Natural stone — sandstone, limestone and local stone
  • Sawn and dressed stone, for a crisper contemporary line
  • Clay and concrete block paving
  • Brick and stone edging, steps and low retaining walls to finish

We give every quote in person, after a visit to see the site for ourselves. If you have a plan, bring it; if you have only the beginnings of one, we are glad to talk it through.

Common questions

Questions, answered.

What areas do you lay patios in?

Salisbury and the surrounding Wiltshire villages.

How much does a patio cost?

Every patio is priced on its own — the stone, the size and the groundwork all matter — so we give a fixed quote in person after a site visit.

How much upkeep does a stone patio need?

Very little. An occasional sweep and a wash down keeps it in good order for years.

If this is the kind of work you have in mind, we'd be glad to talk it through.
